The Art of Layering Lighting
A thoughtfully furnished room can still feel flat or unfinished if the lighting has not been carefully considered. Too often, a single overhead fixture is expected to do all the work. While it may provide general illumination, it rarely creates the warmth, depth, and flexibility that make a space truly inviting.
Just as we layer textures, finishes, and materials in a well-designed interior, we must also layer light.

How to Choose The Right Sized Rug
Besides instantly softening and cozying a space, rugs are needed to ground a room, define spaces, and quietly set the tone for how every other detail comes together. Typically, I'll start scheming spaces, starting with a rug as a jumping off point - it truly can make or break a space. Invest in as high-quality rug as you can afford - synthetic ones have a cheaper price tag but also a shorter shelf life whereas a natural fiber like wool may cost a little more up front, but i

Picking The Perfect Paint Finish
Selecting paint colors gets all the attention, but choosing the right paint finish can be just as important and it is something that I get asked about a lot. The finish determines how the color reads in your space, how well the walls hold up to daily life, and the overall mood of the room. It can be the perfect complement to the textiles and finishes you already have, creating a cohesive and layered look. It can also become a bold statement on its own, adding shine, depth, or

I'm Scheming (of) A Colorful Christmas
Happy Holidays! See what I did there with that title?! Ba dum dum. I have been so lucky to be so busy this fall with so many exciting projects that I cannot wait to finish up and photograph. While we wait for all of the furniture and finishing touches to arrive, here are some spaces that I am currently working on. This first scheme is a living room for a client that I've been working with for a while now. The room was a literal blank slate which was a lot of fun. I was

Decorating a "Big Girl" Bedroom with Pink (That Isn't Too Sweet!)
When some long time clients approached me about working on their daughter's bedroom, I was over the moon because I just love working on children's spaces and I know that they love color, too! There is something about channeling your inner child and seeing the world through their eyes that is just so much fun. I approach design work a couple of ways - I either put together schemes for clients myself or sometimes it is fun to have the clients come into my studio to go throu

Setting a Beautiful Table: Best of the Best
A tablescape should feel intentional and reflective of the occasion, whether it's a holiday celebration, birthday dinner, or baby shower. The good news is that there's always time to create something beautiful in your home, no matter the event.

Balancing Tradition and Modernity: Blending Styles
Creating a harmonious living space can be a fun challenge, especially when two distinct styles come into play. But for me, that's what makes design really interesting and is one of my favorite challenges! In my client's living room, the black mid-century Eames chair was a non-negotiable for the husband but the wife wanted a lightened up, more preppy vibe with blues and greens being her favorite colors.

A Character, Color-Filled Family Room
I got to work with this lovely couple last year on their primary bedroom and I was thrilled when they asked me to help with their family room. They are a large family and while the living room was large, it wasn't really functioning for them. Not only was there not enough seating, it wasn't particularly comfortable and the room was lacking some personality.

Flatware with a Fun Twist
This flatware intrigued me from the minute I took a look at it. It is colorful and unique, good quality and an even better price point - a trifecta! The brand is called Annova and they are a California based brand that specializes in designing vibrant, durable flatware for kids and adults alike.

Spring (Re)Fresh
Yes, I realize it is only January but the temps are extra cold here in North Carolina and we even got some snow! In an effort to combat...
